Hey guys I have an 84 Z with the 305, 5.0 H.O. engine, 5 speed manual tranny. Alot of times when I go to "romp" down on the gas, it seems like the engine has died or like I have ran out of gas. Just for a brief moment. It then takes off. Any ideas & solutions as to what may be causing this? Thanks!

 

Do you go all the way to the floor or just like 1/2 to 2/3? If its 1/2 to 2/3, then your accelerator pump (non computer controlled carb) and or throttle position sensor are bad (if you have the factory computer controlled quadrajet). Mine started doing this and I unhooked my throttle positon sensor (its on the drivers side front of the carb with a 3 wire connector) and mine run almost like new, but now my gas mileage is worse. If it happens when you put it to the floor, then your secondary air valve is out of adjustment. Check out the tech articles on ccc quadrajets on www.montecarloss.com and they will help you out.

My 85 Z does this, i figured the TPS was going south. Haven't messed with it yet though, cause I dont care too at this time.
