IROC's looking bad at the track
Went to the track last night... There were 2 87 305 LB9's. One auto, one stick. They were horrible. They looked like crap and ran like it too. There was this black one that had these really stupid headlight covers with big Accel stickers on them which sounded like crap with some red loser driver looking all cool... ran a real cool 15.4
Then there was a blue one with a crappy flowmaster catback which was a 5 speed... ran a 16.2 I beleive. Awful... I don't understand. Why are these stupid people ripping around looking all proud thinking they are fast when they are running like poo. They just make the strong running 3rd gens look bad. Just wanted to vent... KEEP THE DIRTY REDS OFF THE ROAD

15's are NOT quick. 16's are NOT quick. Anymore, 14's are NOT quick. There are 4 cylinders running better than these beat 305's.
jh,mh
Yeah I'm not proud to run 15's with my car but I don't go to the track anymore unless I have a full bottle
I fully believe that I have a solid 12 second IROC-Z now since it ran 13.30's with the 100 shot and now it's eating a 150 shot. It's brual in comparison.
Later fellas

I thought I was making us look bad when I was running mid 14s years ago!! Those guys arent half as bad as this guy with a mustang I ran. He had a 2000 cobra, built and blown, and an attitude that his car was a Mclaren, and I raped him until the end, where he trapped at 113. I just dont like people who think they are better than others.

Imagine how I felt when I went to the track with the set-up in my sig. RUmbling the ground and pulled off an amazing 15.6 I later found out I had a fuel leak that could have fueld 4 hondas. They wouldnt let me run again because they told me I was pouring something on the groud. I had ran an 8.2 1/18 before with just the flowmaster, no cam just the block work, but my TPI killed me in the 1/4
Everyone starts some place. I started in the 15. second range. Last year my car ran in the high 12.9. This year I am hoping for the 11. People get smarter with age so maybe in a year or two they will as well. I remember when I was 16 and had my first car. I wish I could forget.
I doubt these guys were too young... early 20's... just ignorant. No one is perfect though. But it's not like these things are dogs... well, they are by todays standards, but back when...
Eitherway, I just wish there were nicer ones out there running. The real nice ones are just sitting in a garage not getting ran, whereas the crappy ones just keep getting worse.
It's not a bad thing if you're running 15's. I think most ALL 305/Auto's are 15's, but if you're going around thinking it's really quick, then that just sucks hehe. Either way, like someone said, you've got to start somewhere. I started with a 14.6 and only gained 3 tenths with gears, headers, cold air, and pullies. But I did have a bad time with a 16.4 when I was running on 7 cylinders after I changed my plug wires and didn't get them all on tight
Then I was running 15.2 with a destroyed clutch
Excuses, excuses... anyway.... hey, if you're running 16's, don't be going off on how you're wupping my Mustang. If you're running 16's, I want to know why you're so damn slow so I can help figure it out! I hate the attitudes when I try and talk to some of these kids. They think I don't know what i'm talking about when I pull around in my Mustang, yet I can tell them what year their car is without even speaking a word to them

Yeah that's unfortunately the norm pretty much everywhere
Most 3rd gens ARE 15 second cars, and not in the best condition, driven by clueless younger kids. That is why when I see one running real bad, I usually try to help out. Case in point: Last year at Cecil County Raceway I watched an 86 IROC showing its age running only 16.8, and it sure didn't sound stock. After 2 runs, I finally approached the guy and offered to help. He installed some generic 350, had headers and some kind of exhaust, 3.73 gears, and a 750 Holley. He was quite disappointed with the times, and told me he planned on selling the car. After a good discussion and looking around his engine bay, I noticed he had not replaced the computer controlled distributor. After explaining to him why he needed to do so, he told me he would give it try and let me know how it worked out for him. I got a call 2 weeks later thanking me for the help. Apparently the car ran MUCH better, running low 14s which just the distributor swap
Running anything slower than 13s and acting cocky is a big no-no in my book. But as long as everyone else thinks all 3rd gens are 15 second cars, I'm better off
