IROC-Z what should I upgrade to?

Im planing to buy a nice IROC-Z for ~$2900 and its stock(215hp/295lb-torque) and I was thinking of:

-Borla Catback Exhaust $499.99
-Edelbrock Performance Air Cleaner 14x3in $58.00
-Holley 670cfm 4-Barrel Street Avenger Carb $360.00
-Holly SysteMax Engine System $1350.00

Im hoping atleast ~350rwhp/420rwtq is this estimation too high? And are thease good choices, thanx

Sounds like you bought a 305, but the numbers are high for a carb version. I do not know what youi are trying to fo with those Mods, but you Can Not Add the numbers toghter to get RWHP. It Does not work that way. Again what engine do you have???

Borla- Forget about it. No increase in power over comparable systems and no justification to blow $500.

Edelbrock Air Cleaner-

Holley Carb- If you look closer you will realize that Holley offers a SysteMax package that includes heads, cam, intake, carb, and aircleaner. I think it costs around $2800 for everything. I would recommend this system if you want a good streetable combo.

For a stock 305, just buy a good 3" Catback system. Horsepower gains are not that great for you.

My bad, its a 305 5.0L, I know im just making guesstimations on rwhp/rwtq, i really dont know what to do to get to 500rwhp/500rwtq, thats what im shooting for. I was going to get a LT1/T56 combo but I was looking for a $300-600 car w/o engine/tranny. The only one I can find is this IROC-Z and I want to know what I can do to it to make me hit 500hp/tq.

Really? How is it that there is no increase in HP, but with a borla catback for a LT1 gets ~20-25hp? And Ill looking into that combo, looks very nice

I guess it would be just better to get a LT1 put in by christmas, I really wanted close to 500rwhp/rwtq out of this 5.0L but if its not possible ill just order a LT1/T56 and get the 350HP/400lb-tq with a 350/ramjet combo.

I think what he meant is that you won't see anymore of a gain if you buy another catback system of high quality. But is there anything out there that sounds as good and looks as good as the borla for a cheaper price? I really like the look of that stainless steel.

So it's a 5.0? Is it an LB9, Lg4. Lo3, or L69? Either way, to reach your Hp goals you're gonna need an engine swap. And i personally don't think an Lt1 would be very cost effective for that kinda HP. Sure an LT1 can make that kinda power, but it will cost a lot of dough.
I would look into a custom built 383 or a high HP crate engine. Convert to carb (if not already) and put some juice to it.
Good luck.

I can get a LT1 crate engine w/o intake manafold for $1200 through my friend at pohanka chevy, he said if I was a reg customer it would be $2700. Ill grab a T56 tranny and a new bellhousing. It will just cost more because im trying to knock down the $3500 price on the IROC-Z this guy is pushing to sell. Im guessing $2700ish, there is a few soft spots and ripped seats ect, so I think $2700 is a good buy.

A t56 swap is much more complicated than simply tossing in a T56 and bellhousing. You need the flywheel, clutch, master/slave cylinder assembly, shifter, speedo cable adapter, crossmember and other miscellaneous things. The trans swap alone would cost near the price of the car....or more.

Jesus Christ, that is what my boy told me and its not a high price at all. GM PERFORMANCE PARTS sells a Goodwrench 350 (260hp/350lb-tq) for $1449.00 and also a 350 HO Crate engine (330hp/380lb-tq) for $2219.17 So me getting a regularly priced LT1 crate engine for $2700 is respectable, and with his discount (directly ordering parts through GM) can get the same engine for $1200 w/0 intake manafold) I know that its just more then tossing in a new tranny, Joe said it will be alot of money to do it.

Im going to do this around jan of next year after my $1000-1200 month paychecks saved up, and a $1500 cash for christmas will help alot. Im pretty sure I can get the IROC-Z28 I mentioned above for $2500-2700 being that the car will need a new paintjob, headlight, driver seat, radio, and some soft spots need to be sanded and repainted. Why is everyone making fun of me and sh*t, you guys need to act a bit more mature
