Intake leak question TPI specific
Intake leak question TPI specific
I will be buying a 89 Fireturd Formula 350 with an intake leak, picking it up within a week.
I have only worked on carbed cars before, and all i would need to fix it on a carbed car is an intake gasket and an hour....
but with TPI, my question is..... can i lift the whole TPI setup and replace the intake gasket like a carbed car or do i have to take the TPI apart??
Thanks in advance..
Rich

you have to take the tpi apart to change the intake gaskets which is no big deal. just tell the parts store or wherever your getting your gaskets you need a tpi intake gasket set and the year of the car and so on. the gasket set runs about $27 atleast thats what i paid a year ago. theres 2 torx bolts on the inside bottom that bolt the runners to the base. i missed them and was scratching my head for a few minutes then found them. its not any harder the changing intake gaskets on a carbed car just a few extra things that have to come off.
I just took my plentum off today, and let me tell you, we had a really fun time trying to free the plentum from the runners. After a while those gaskets start to seal like friggin superglue. To get to the bottom rear bolt on the driverside of the runners, I had to take the wiper motor off.
Well i got the car, I was concered about drivingit from NJ to MI wiht even a small leak....so I threw in a can of stop leak.....BANG didntleak a drop all the way home!!!!
RUNS PERFECT!!! i love the torque...my first TPI
Ill make a post
