installing miniram

What did you guys do with the EGR? I haven't installed mine yet but I've seen people just not put on in.

My car does get tested for emissions every year so I need the car to run clean. If I don't install the EGR what will happen? If you do instal it were do you put it?

Thanks, Ken

I don't think the miniram has provisions for the EGR valve. It's not emissions legal in some states, ie, CA. If you're worried about emissions, just swap it out with the stock intake every year, that's what I'd do.

I have an almost identical set up - there is not a provision for EGR. If there was a passage for it in the intake you could run an external one like a corvette uses. If you don't have visual inspection, you could more than likely get past the sniffer test with the right tune. Good luck.

FYI: my set up is - 87' L98 block, 383 rotating assembly, stage 2 AFR 195's, cc306 cam, Mini Ram 2 intake, BBK 58mm TB, Hooker LT's.

86 IROC; do you have any dyno time on the motor yet or track times. I'm curious to see some numbers.

You guys think I can pass the sniffer without the EGR?

Possibly. It's best to have the car run pretty hot, like pretty close to meltdown temps. Meaning, you dont want the cooling fans to come on until like 230-240*. You may want to adjust the A/F ratio and timing as well. If you burn your own PROMs, or know someone that does, it's best to get a custom chip.

I'm sure you could mount the EGR valve on some sort of an external bracket, then run a line to a custom tap on the manifold, right?

So I should get two chips made? One for performance and one for emissions.

If you have emissions testing - yes. Either that, or make friends with someone that will give you an inspection sticker w/o testing the car.

As far as any #'s with my set up - no. I'm currently in the middle of swapping out Accel DFI for a GM SD harness & ECM. There are a few people that have similar set ups out there. The fastest one I have heard of is 11.20's @ 123 MPH on Drag radials. Another runs 11.60's @ 118+ on Mickey Thompson Competitors. Lastly, there is one other guy that ran 12.40's @ 116+ on street radials. I'm personally hoping for 11.50's @ 119-120 w/ decent hook on drag radials.
