Installing the LT1. Parts needed.
Installing the LT1. Parts needed.
I plan on installing it in two weeks, so Im going to try to compile a list of parts that I would possibly need. I know I cant get everything but Im trying to be well prepared. Also, are the motor mounts I need the same as third gen mounts?
Re: Installing the LT1. Parts needed.
i'm doing an lt1 swap too
only when it gets warmer (no garage)
i'd be interesting in hearing what else i might need
at the very least i can tell you that the third gen mounts will work
i have some poly mounts on my k-member

Re: Installing the LT1. Parts needed.
custom fuel lines, thirdgen headers, lt1 wiring harnesses. Optional: a/c relocation brackets, lt1 radiator, lt1 dual fans, tuning/programming, information from shbox.com and thirdgen.org's engine swap message boards.
Re: Installing the LT1. Parts needed.
i tried figuring out the harness i got, i got half of it down, i got a section of wiring cut up, looks like what goes to the body, and i have no idea which wires are for the o2 sensors, etc etc
but i havent heard about the ac relocation bracket, where can i get that and where does it relocate the ac too,how is the belt run?
the other thing, how would i hook upm my power steering lines to my box?
would the 4th gen lt1 lines work?

A/C - www.bowersrodshop.com , i think, has the a/c relocation bracket. It runs a little under $300. I have it, but if i were to do another LT1 swap, i would probably take a 20-24 oz ballpin hammer to the frame to clear the F-body LT1 a/c compressor. If you keep the a/c in the original location, you will need an adaptor which only is around $20.
Check out his website and you'll see how he routes the belt. The a/c is relocated high on the driver's side. In place of where the compressor is an A/C delete pulley. The a/c bracket goes where the smog/emissions stuff was. I dont think you can keep the emissons equipment if you go with this bracket but i'm not sure. Belt comes with the kit. If you get this kit, i recommend getting A/C lines off of a 89-92 V6 f-body. You'll have to modify the lines a little bit to get them to fit.
Power steering - if you have the LT1 lines, i have heard you can just bend them.
Otherwise, for the high pressure line, i got a line for a 95 caprice from a parts store(o'reileys) for like $35. The 95 caprice line requires slight bending on the end of the line that connnects to the power steering pump. For the other line you just use regular power steering hose( i forget the size of hose).
Other notes - if you remove the egr then you need egr block-off plates. You can find these on ebay. Only need 2 plates. If you have a 96-97 LT1, it is best to swap the pcm with one from 95. This way it is easier to program/tune, has less 02 sensors, and the 95 pcm can be tuned to have a 5 RHP or so more than the 96-97 computer. Minimum headers requirements: 1 5/8" shorties for a thirdgen f-body.
Fuel Lines- i got mine for $120 stainless steel from Z28Ricer, a member at thirdgen.org.
