Installing Edelbrock Headers

Hey guys, didn't get any help at 3rdgen.org so maybe you guys could help me out. I got some used edelbrock headers and y-pipe. They will be coming in tommorow They are part #EDL-6872, the ones for the 86-90 tpi's.

Will these header gaskets work for me? Felpro 1404 I found some donut gaskets for the collectors but I am unsure what header gaskets I need.

What hardware should I get? What are the differences between studs and bolts? Do any other companys make locking hardware besides stage 8? I don't really want to get stage 8 bolts because I heard they are a pain in the butt. For those of you that installed Edelbrock's, where the spacers really necessary?

Since I live in Cali I have to keep all my emmisions crap. Is the install going to be any easier or harder since I have an 83? What do I need to remove to get access to the manifolds?

the 1404 will work. but i used the 1426 because they have round ports to match the header. the 1404 are square.

i used the supplied header bolts with no problems. yes hte spacers are needed. you'll use them for the bracket on the driver's side.

pic here of bracket

easiest way i did it was remove the AC box to access the #8 bolts. but, be careful. it will break easily. other than that, you'd have to get at the rear bolt from underneath.

Yup, and for the bolts to use, there are also some new bolts that I just saw in the newest Summit catalog. They have like an allen head in the center to splay the bolt. Not sure if they are any good, but they look interesting. The farthest rear passenger bolt is gonna be the hardest, if you still have the A/C evaporator case on the car. A nice, slim gear wrench comes in handy for this

I got the Header instructions from edelbrock today and It tells all the hardware I need.
One of the things I need are 2- 3/8"-16 x 2 3/4 Header bolts. What does the "16" stand for?

I really dont feel like getting ripped a new one by a shop I was unsure before since I didnt have instructions since I got them used. I want to make sure i do it right the first time. I called up Edelbrock and got some so I should be good to go. Just have to get the hardware. I also want to learn myself. Im sure my dad will eventually want to get headers and I know my bro will.

Rear pass. side is deffently a little bit of a pain. Get the rear bolt started as much as you can first and take advantage of the slotted hole on the header. Taking the smog pump off might make the rest of them easier. Save the driver side (easier) for last. You might have to bend the A/C compressor support bar a little to get it lined up with the header bolt, nothing major. One or two of the plugs are a little bit of pain too (have to use a wrench).

Overall I don't think its to hard, I've heard of a lot worse header installs. I think they fit pretty good (except with a factory oil cooler, a too little tight)
