Increased fuel consumption after header install?
Well ever since I got my headers and 3" exhaust installed, the car seems to be consuming gas a bit faster than before. She was never really that good on gas, but now especially it is getting frustrating with gas at 2.99 a gallon. Has anyone experienced this before? I guess I will have to have a custom chip burnt too really get it where I want it. But other than SLP runners and K&N's, the motor is all stock.

what size headers are they? If they are longtubes, how far away did you place your O2 sensor? That O2 sensor needs to be in pretty much the same distance it was when it was stock, otherwise it can get a false reading, and in turn throw everything off because the signal requires a certain temperature. If you are running long tubes this is definitely a problem, but I can see it happening with shorties as well. The fix is to get a heated O2 sensor. the factory (94 IIRC, someone else can help confirm this though) ZR1 corvette has a heated O2 sensor. Just buy it, and splice the harness for the heating element to turn on with ignition, and the signal and power can follow the same wires your current O2 sensor is. I did this when I ran long tubes on my IROC and coupled with a custom tune and aftermarket ignition system I was getting about 18-20 mpg city with normal driving, and 28-30 mpg highway. I used a 1/4 tank of gas on a 150 mile trip at 80 MPH with 3.27s in the IROC, going about 2200 rpm the whole time. Hope I was helpful

also, headers and full exhaust will free up more power...you think power comes without a price? think about it, if you allow more flow to go out, your allowing more flow to come into the engine, in essence adding more fuel to compensate for the extra air flow....
