i hate going to the chevy dealership

how come everytime i go to the chevy parts departement, everything on my car has been discontinued. i though gm was the place to go for speedo gears. then the idiot there tells me that 87 camaros had the highest gear ratio of 3.08 from the factory which is a lie. so i had him look up 86 and they listed all the gear ratios. but all have been discontinued since 1998. what the hell is going on here. guess il be going to slp for my speedo gears

why did you go to the dealership for gears? Are they cheaper there or what? Why don't you just order them off the internet or something?

yep, I was trying to get a sensor for my EGR, that was discontinued.

Check out this site, they seem to have EVERYTHING, and most of the products have pictures:

I just recieved my sensor yesterday, no problems

I just picked up a set for my dads 92 vert, swapped from 3.08 to 3.42's. Had no problems or mentions of the part being discontinued. I am sure they are still using speedo gears in the newer cars and trucks

they are all the same gear, just different applications

So know what application will work

For example, verts didn't come with 3.42 rears, only 3.08's

So I told them I had a coupe with the G92 package and a 5 spd which equals 3.42 gears

If you need a set for say 3.73's, then you need to use an 84 Z28 with a posi disc rear, as they were 3.73's

gotta know your parts

Maybe your dealership cannot find it so they just say "Discontinued" and try fob you off.

I agree with this person, I don't beleive they discontinued making speedo gears for one car. GM likes to share too many parts across the spectrum.

what rear gears did you swap too, I still have the part numbers laying here for the 3.42 speedo gears for the T5

Sometimes you don't have a choice. I have a good relationship with my GM dealer so they go the extra mile for me.

Exactly

it is all about the repore you build with the person you are dealing with. My GM dealership will let me dig through the computer and books if they are too busy because they know I know what I am looking for.... if that makes sense.

Great guys that will argue about prices if they have to special order something. They know how to work those phones!

Buying them the occasional pizza also helps. I do that with the "Fleet Pricing" savings I get.
