HSR requirements???

I was just looking on the Holley website and it says "87-later w/ aluminum heads". I haven't seen anything on any other sites I've been to about this. It'll work w/ iron heads, won't it ? Also, can you use the stock 87 TPI throttle body with it? I don't know if I can afford another TB along w/ everything else I need in the next 7 weeks.

Re: HSR requirements???

Hmmm. That's a REALLY crappy way to phrase that - it'll work just fine with both iron heads & your stock TB. (As a matter of fact, I'm going to use my stock TB with mine when I finally pull my HSR off my garage shelf...)

The only 3rdgen that I wouldn't recommend an HSR for is one that has to pass California smog tests or one that's running a 305 (it's just overkill)...

EDIT: Oops - Forgot to suggest that you check out stealthram.com for more info...

Bolt it on & enjoy!

Re: HSR requirements???

I was also trying to find out if a BBK 1542 TB will fit the stealth ram before I bought the TB, but I ran out of time and bought the TB for $255. I can't seem to find any posts on this specific issue. The Holley site says stock LT-1 TB I think. Any info would help. Thanx, Chris.

Re: HSR requirements???

No idea, I don't pay that much attention to specific aftermarket TB specs at this point. The TBs that I'm aware of come in 3 sizes - 48 mm, 52 mm & 58 mm.

As I understand it, buying a TB is really not necessary until you're making somewhere north of 325 (?) RWHP (I'm sure someone will chime in here w/ a better answer ).

Best answer I can give you is that if the BBK TB will work OK with a "stock" TPI motor, it'll work with the HSR.

Re: HSR requirements???

Well, I have little reason to doubt that a 30 over 350 w/ 10:1 forged flat tops, ported heads, a ZZ-9 or 409 cam, and a HSR won't be able to make 325 horses. Especially when I throw a 100 shot on it. The throttle body is listed for a 92-93 LT-1 on the BBK site. I've only got 7 weeks till this thing's gotta be running, so I'm pulling all kindsa strings.

Re: HSR requirements???

I ran my 87 350 HSR (stock engine at the time) Last year with my stock Iron heads. But when it spun 3 bearings while on a dyno i rebuilt the engine. Now its a 355 w/ HSR & soon I am getting Dart 180 ALM heads. The shop already made sure the engine was built to those specs.

Re: HSR requirements???

I am running the HSR on my 305 TPI Formula. motor is stock with the exception of the HSR. Works fine on my iron heads and it is drilled for 86 and earlier heads as well as 87+ heads.

Re: HSR requirements???

Has anyone on this site gotten any good results out of the Stealth Ram? With my combo I should be about 100 hp higher than I am.

You can use your stock T/B or you can get a Holley or BBK one. Either will work fine. You might have to do minor grinding to either T/B, but it's no big deal. When I was running my IROC (stock internals and not rebuilt) with bolt ons and 100 shot I ran a 12.77 ET. After installing 113 casting corvette heads (aluminum), ZZ4 cam, HSR, and 1.52 magnum roller tip rockers, I ran a 12.85. So if the nitrous was giving me the advertised 100 horses on the 100 shot, then it is obvious that my setup gave me almost those 100 horses in raw power.

Oh, and I am running a 58MM BBK throttle body currently.

I can send you digital pictures of my setup if you need any.
