HSR going on
those are the holley fuel rails. i got the HSR from a fire sale. guy in our club got his car burned to the ground. so i got all the stuff. had the intake ceramic coated. going to paint the fuel rails black.
well big problem tonight with the new intake. popping and backfiring. kept hearing a grinding clicky noise. luckily not far from home. opened hood. headers glowing real red. thinking major vacuum leak. nope. heard what sounded to be rockers making noise on the passenger side. took valve cover off. nothing loose. started motor. no oil. looked at gauge. nothing. thought oil pump locked up. i've had it happen before from cutting my heads .030 and not shimming the distributor. removed distributor. turn oil pump by hand. not that. looked at distributor. it has been jumping off the oil pump shaft.
so, couple of thoughts come to mind. this distributor came out of a 1989 caprice 5.0L. shouldn't matter.
1. the pin inside the gear is higher than normal. will compare original distributor to new one tomorrow.
2. the distributor hole on the intake is higher than normal. causing the distributor to sit higher up off the shaft.
3. the boss for the distributor clamp is higher. causing the clamp to tighten down but not firmly hold the distributor down.
side note. person i got the intake from hasn't experienced this problem. so most likely it's a distibutor problem. so, look out for this guys.

Interesting...How does the distributor gear look?? Depending on your cam it may be made of the wrong material, making it wear, and possibly let it move/jump?? or maybe the gear is slipping on the cam not the oil shaft?? Take a look at the cam gear and see how it looks...I'm shooting in the dark here, but that's the only reason I can think of for the obviously very off timing and no oil pressure at the same time.

Slow91Z might have a point. You have an '86 Trans Am flat-tappet engine using an '89 roller-cam distributer, perhaps theres an issue with the distributer/gear in this scenario.
Might be something to consider.

ok went and looked this over one more time. took off the clamp because i would need to bend it to make up for the distance. to make up for cutting the distributor seat. wouldn't you know, the driver's clamp boss sits about 1/8" taller than the one on the passenger side. so, most likely the distributor jumped up and moved a tooth when i floored it. putting it back together now. will know soon.
