How to take my Shifter *** off, its stuck

Ok, I've tackled some heavy problems with my car, and I wanted to do something cosmetic for once, so I figured a new shifter *** would be good, as mine is all scratched up, now its not one of those shiny ***** looking ones that my step dad stuck on his '****t up' toyota truck, you know the ones, with the shiny stuff, also come in checkered shiny stuff

I bought a leather shifter ***, real sexy like you know (atleast my girlfriend thinks that) so I go to stick it in.... and the *** wont come off, I figure its the stock shifting column and everything, so it should come off, its just a big black ball, like an 8 ball, without the 8, and I need to take it off to put the new one on.
But there is no pin, it isn't screwing off, it might beable to, but its not, and I don't know how to unscrew it safely, as I don't want to hurt anything
So I need to get it off, any Ideas?

Thanks

Mine was a pain in the *** to get off. Just twist counter clock wise really hard and it will come off.

Maybe it was cross threaded when it was put on

It is only screwed on, so it will eventually come off.
If you don't want to wait though, take a hammer and pound straight down.

I'm not sure if I'd try the latter of the two, but I thought I'd share anyways.

Would heat work?

Its a metal shifter ***, so I figure if I get it hot, maybe it will come loose, should I try it?

And if I turn it counterclockwise really hard to remove it while still on the tranny, could I hurt the tranny?

Thanks

Oh god no, there is no way you can hurt your tranny by unscrewing your shift ****.

It just unscrews on a 5-speed, I had a hard time getting mine off, I removed it with one of those wrenchs that have the rubber strap that grips really good, and it didn't hurt the ****, I have heard you can heat it up and it helps get it off too. On an auto I think there is a little clip you have to pull out first then the kbob just slips off.

Stupid as it sounds, I installed a B&M Pro Stick in my IROC and it's been flawless. When I drive around, i usually screw and unscrew the white ball on top of the shifter Listen now, it would unscrew and screw on PERFECTLY. I did this everyday for maybe a month and before I put the car away for the winter, I wanted to install the top consoleplate and the thing won't unscrew I tried all of my might, I've even tried 2 chain wrenches wrapped around it to add more force and it won't budge. I'm seriously thinking I have to cut it off or i'll break the shifter.

Any ideas?

If that white ball has a threaded steel, brass or alu. insert in it I bet all that screwing caused the threads to gall up and if thats the case it won't ever come off.
