How to drop tenths....fast and easy.

Alright, Im going to the track this weekend. Im trying to hit mid 14's and my best is a 14.9. Here are the mods I have:

Flowmasters 40 series muffler
Catco Cat
Homemade Ram Air
Accel Cap/8.8 wires
NGK Plugs
Removed front sway bar

Alright, I need to drop a few more tenths, so, help me out.

BTW: Ive heard of disconnecting the altenator for two tenths? Does this mean taking the belt of or unplugging the wires in the back? What about timing, what should I set it to? And how do I increase the fuel pressure? And how much? Thanx.

Im 6 foot tall and weigh 135lbs. I dont think I can get any lighter w/o being in a hospital. Now my car on the other hand, could probably spare to loose a few.

put a bag of ice on your intake for a bit before you line up

take the alt belt off (prolly will work the same if you start the car and take the batt out and leave alt belt on)

radial tires? dont do a burnout -what ive heard

low gas, change tire pressure =hard on front soft on back

You don't want to take the battery out. If you do the alternator's output ripple will destroy the ECM in fairly short order. The battery supresses the ripple by acting as a large, slow-charging capacitor. If you have a serpentine belt setup you don't want to take the belt off as you will then have no water pump and your car will overheat and blow a head gasket. Disconnecting the alternator plug will free up a few HP though....just make sure your battery is in good shape and you don't forget to hook it back up after each run.

Icing the intake DOES help.

Low gas means less weight. You can also take out the spare tire etc.

how serious are you? It takes about 5-10 minutes a seat to pull the seats out so you could do that to shave a bunch of weight, spare tire $ jack and basically anything you can find in the car that comes out easy.

Also im not sure about the whole lowering your rear tire pressure. From what ive heard and this makes sense to me is that street tires are not designed to work like drag tires therefor keeping them at near their proper inflation is best....not sure about that one though

Im running Nitto Drag Radials so I usually put the psi at 18-21, and roast them till they start smoking.

Alright, so I keep hearing ice the intake. How long do I need to ice it in-between each run? 1 hour is what I hear, but that seems a lil long in between runs.

Also, about the timing. What do you guys set it to? I was thinking at starting w/ 10, and then trying 12.

And..the fuel pressure, can you adjust this for some tenths? Can you adjust the stock fuel pressure reg.?

I usually run 5 gallons of 107 octane.

This is all good stuff, any other ideas?

why are you going to take off weight? for real... if im going to take my car down the track, i'll take it down the track the way i ride around town in it... taking off weight would be cheating since you're not that fast with everything back in it. i say leave it how it is and do more mods to your car to make it quicker. unless you plan on riding around town, or racing, with no seats in your car, don't take off the seats.

save up some money and do some mods. remove smog pump, pulley system, tb foil, gears, shift kit, tq converter, headers, bigger tb, port the intake.... crap like that... just giving you ideas, im sure you have some of those mods already just my .02

45 PSI in the front tires, half tank or less of fuel, Icing the intake REALLY good is a MUST MOD. Hosing it down(The intake/runner) with a good blast of nitrous before you go to the burnout box would be cool too Porting the Plenum just inside the intake is worthwhile. Those little walls behind the TB opening cover a good amount of the 48MM openings and that's not good at all! Re-routing the coolant to bypass the throttle body helps keep the intake cooler which helps with power, along with a bag of ice again does wonders for power. Not sure really but I used to read about relocating the MAT sensor? But then it wouldnt be that big of a difference if you did the TB Bypass and are icing the intake..

Did I say Ice the intake? Push the car thru the staging lanes to keep underhood temps down. Remove ICE BAG right before you go to the burnout box and do the Nitto Drag 5-7 smoke show to ensure stickyness. Goodluck!

I dont have any of those mods you listed. I have the exact mods you do except I have cats, no TB bypass, and I have a 305. Im looking to run exactly what you do using only free mods(besides my flowmasters). So far I've run a 14.9 in 65 degree weather w/ only a few free mods. I have since added a few more free mods and am hoping for mid 14's. Im on a mission to prove that LB9's have more of a purpose than a boat anchor. (I make no guarentees)

Right back at ya bro. Your's is sweet. I wish I had t-tops

I'll let you know how I do. Here's a list of mods I have done so far:

Flowmasters
Nitto T555R Drag Radials 18-21 psi(track only)
Homemade Ram Air
Bump the timing to 10-12
Accel Cap, 8.8mm Wires, NGK plugs
Remove Smog Pump
Remove front sway bar
Remove Filters(track only)
Remove Thermostat
Unplug Altenator(track only)
Ice Intake(at the track)
Fan Switch

That's basically it, I know all of those arent free, but I dont consider them REAL mods. To me, in most cases, a mod is something added to the car. The Nitto's, gotta have rear tires right? Cap, wires plugs, basic tune-up. The Ram Air and the Flowmasters are really the only thing added, everything else was just taken away or made more efficient.

But that's just my opinion.
