Re: how do you adjust rockers

If you are doing one at a time you will tighten the rocker down untill there is no lash in the pushrod then go one more turn. (thats what the chilton manual states). If you have them all off at once then there is a sequence you will need to follow starting with the engine at TDC and tightening this one and that one and then turn it 180 degrees and tighten the rest. If you don't have a manual of some sort I suggest getting one.

If they're all off....you must first bring the respective cylinder to TDC, then tighten the rocker nut till there's no lash on the pushrod, then one HALF turn more and you're set. Keep repeating til you've done all 16 rockers on all 8 cylinders.

i would take one off at a time...i would put compressed air into the motor inorder to keep the valves up...then replace the valve stem seals...i would then need to adjust the rockers...i hope this wouldnt change the steps in adjusting the rockers....how much P.S.I. should i put into the cylinder, inorder to keep up the valves???

If you do one at a time like you plan to then you will already have that cyl at TDC when you replace the seal. So just adjust untill there is no lash and either half or one turn most people say half but my chilton said a full. You can decide that then move to the next one. You will not need to go in any certain sequence if you are doing one at a time. The hose that I have recomends around 90 psi to hold the valve up.

Re: how do you adjust rockers

is it better to do it 1/4 turn past zero lash or 1/2 turn if you're running hydrolic roller lifters?

I have done that before and it seems to work fine but you'll have a mess unless you get the oil hole plugs.

Yep, either way will work just fine.

Just for what it's worth, I set valve lash (just like how it was suggested earlier) with the engine out of the car when I rebuilt it in Feb. 2004, and I haven't had to touch them since. I know that's not amazing to most people, but it is to me.
