Re: How do I strengthen my tranny mount.

I am not sure what kind of power you are putting down, but quite a few friends are putting down 400+rwhp on manual cars and they are not breaking the trans mounts.
I do know that my poly mount is pretty tough and it is the same mount that the other guys are using.

Re: How do I strengthen my tranny mount.

The motor mounts are good, I tried putting a rubber mount on the trans and it didn't break but the shifter jumped up about 2 inches, I decided that was not good. I'm going to try a poly mount and see if it gives me some flex, but not so much that its dangerous. This camaro is putting out 425hp and 440ft lbs of torque out of a 355, I am thinking I shouldn't have made the motor so torquey with a manual, I'll call it a learning experience, next one I'll do high hp and low torque.

No, that isn't the original trans, unless you don't know what year car you've got. The 4 speed manual was ONLY offered in the 82 models.

You are NOT supposed to do solid tranny and motor mounts. its one or the other. Id ditch the solid tanny mount for a polly on or somthing and tray that out. There has to be some place in the driveline to flex a little bit.

The car is an 84 camaro, I know that from the vin, The car came from the factory with a 4 speed manual, because the center consol has the gear pattern on it and its for the 4 speed thats in the car. The car originally had a 4 cylinder in it. At no point did I say I had a z-28 or berlinita. The 4 speeds did come with the 4 cylinder cars.

So you're saying that you are running the original 4 speed behind that engine and its lasted more than 10ft? Only the early 8 cylinder cars got the T-10. The 4 cylinder 4 speeds were rated for less than half the torque you are currently making.

Re: How do I strengthen my tranny mount.

I don't think that your information about the torque rating is correct. The 1979 chevette got the same 4 speed as the 79 camaro and though I am not certain I think that the same is true here, chevy put a tranny that was way overrated for the motor into the car. My tranny is fine, all 4 speeds ever made are more bullet proof than most 5 speeds.

Re: How do I strengthen my tranny mount.

I just learned that I have the mm4 transmission, which was also used in the 85 corvette. Yeah I guess any tranny used in a corvette is junk and can't take any power (being that corvettes are such slow and cheaply made cars), I'm suprised it made it 10 ft too!
