How do I strengthen my tranny mount.
How do I strengthen my tranny mount.
I have an 84 camaro with a 4 speed manual and I keep breaking the tranny mount. The motor mounts are solid as is the tranny mount. The mount only has 1 bolt though, is there a good way to make this stronger?

BTW, it was a BW T-10

yea early 3rd gens, including 84's had standard 4 speeds, optional 5 speeds
u can tell the 4speeds are old school, theres no hydraulic clutch (i believe) and external shift linkage

The problem is that you're running all solid mounts in a chassis that flexes every time you tap the throttle. Go to a polyurethane trans mount that will suck up some of the flex and you'll likely fix the problem.
Re: How do I strengthen my tranny mount.
It is a 4 speed original tranny, I have subframe connectors, But the problem I think is that the tranny mount is the weakest link. The tires won't spin much becuase the traction bar, the Chassis won't flex becuase its as tied together as can be, there is nothing to give. I am actually a little afraid that if I did make a custom cross member and mount it on better, I'll start tearing up U-jouints, or twist the driveshaft. But I really don't like it when the transmission suddenly jumps up and tries to come through the floor!
Re: How do I strengthen my tranny mount.
you gotta be laying down a lot of power to start bending driveshafts, and u joints/drive shaft is alot easier to replace than fixing all the damage a broken trans mount could do...

Even with SFC's, the car will still flex. You have to keep in mind the fact that the front subframe is just stamped sheetmetal. It's not designed to handle this kind of stress. Unless you build a tube-frame, or put a full roll cage in it, it'll flex on launch and keep breaking mounts.
