How do i fix a broken temp. guage?

My temp guage stays all the way to the top, past the temperatures....(1 o'clock area) its been like that ever since i pulled it out of storage..(in arizona)....do i need to replace the temp guage, or the temp sensor, or is the needle just stuck?

Don't know what is wrong yet. Need more info.

What is the gauge like before you start the car or even get the key in?

Short out the temp sensor wire and see what the gauge says.

What car? What engine? What year?

My 87z's got the same problem, someone told me to check my wires near the manifold on the driver's side.

If, without power, the gauge is still at that position, it is more than likely the gauge. If not, short out the temp sensor wire and you should see it go to red hot on the gauge. If that is the case then the problem is in the sensor.
