Hey Guys. Here!
Hey Guys. Here!
Give a brother a lil help...
I know that my car can make more power.
I have a few issues now...such as a converter that is to small...
And a 850 DP carb
Can you help calulate power or suggest what needs to be changed?
This is what the car has....
3rd gen 84 camaro coupe...I have owned for 13 years.
700r4 with 2800 converter...non lock-up. Extra tranny cooler. (my 4th trans)
4.11 gear in a brand new 7.5 rear (26 spine though) { this is my 4 rear }with stud girdle, Auburn unit and GM gears this time.
350 .060 over.
forged trw pistons small dome
chevy pink rods
steel crank .010
4 bolt main (75 truck block)
Arp bolts
Heads are dart II 200cc
camber 64cc
2.02 valves 1.94 ex
with double springs
3/8 screw in studs
and 1.5 full roller rockers
Cam shaft is custom grind Lunati
solid roller cam
.610 intake
.617 exhaust
246 and 256 duration
I think 112 lode sep???
Comp cam solid roller lifters
power band about 3500-7000
Runnig a victor Jr intake...single plane.
850 DP holley
MSD pro billet dist
MSD 6AL
MSD blaster II coil
MSD wires (red)
stock plugs as far as heat range.
timing set at 38 degree advance at 3500
timing retard box (n2O)
A cheater NOS system currently 175 shot.
With holley Blue pump.
Currently not using until I get a good N/A run
Cheapy headman long tube headers 1 5/8 painted
2 1/2 in exhaust with true dual exhaust
2 flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers.
side pipes (like a AAR CUDA)
Solid engine mounts
Poly trans mount
poly torque arm mount
aftermarket trailing arms(boxed and poly bushing)
B and M shifter
Hurst Line LOCK
Twin Electric Fans (lt1)
Edelbrock water pump
under drive pullies
speed pro balancer
No A/C
NO emissions
Dual snokel factory HO air cleaner with K&N
standard struts and shocks
front and rear sway bars
running 15x4 Torque Thrust II
15x8 rears with 275 BFG drag radials
The car has gone a best of 7.4 at 96 with the 175 shot...same setup but with a 3500 stall and ET street tires.
Best N/a time was a 12.9 @ 103 with a 3.73 gear and a 3500 stall and a 750 vacuum holley on 16X8 iroc wheels with BFG drag radials.
Best 60 ft is 1.7 on N2o and ET streets
N/a 60ft is 1.8 and ET streets
Last run at the track was
13.4 at 102 with 4.56 gears...REAR WAS BROKE BAD THOUGH....grinding really bad...fixed now
with a 2.0 60ft time 850 DP and 2800 stall on BFG Drag Radials
I think the car is capable of mid 12 on the motor...and low 11 on GAS.

my thought would be a higher stall speed . but how well does it launch , bog out of the hole at all ? from the size of the cam i think the stall speed should be 3500 . around here et steets are the hot set up , looks liked they worked good for you too. all in all it sounds like it runs good

with the et STREET THE 175 SHOT...i WENT 1.7 60 FT....
with et streets and no N2O 1.8 60ft
I have sub frames...and lower control arms for suspension mods...
I think I should go mid 12's on motor all day...
what do you think???
So I am trying to work the bugs out...

Well I am doing a jett kit from Holley to lean out the mixture....
Do you guys know a goo starting point...
I need to know the jet sizes for a 750DP front and rear...
I have gotten conflicting info on the subject...EVEN FROM HOLLEY?

All I have to say is its not all in the motor. I would think you would run faster if you had a good suspension setup. Maybe some good shocks, struts, and springs. Since it's mostly a strip car, I would get some drag springs and shocks, you know, something to help you plant all that power. I bet if you did some suspension work, you could cut down your 60' times and run faster. Also a higher stall couldn't hurt. It seems like your stall speed is too low for your motor.
BTW, do you still want that fender?

yea, i agree with bad86Z28. Try gettin a beefier torque arm(spohn makes a good one). Whats your race wight? By the look of ur pics u havent done any weight reduction. If its a strip only car loose the heater and all the stuff u dont use. u could loose about 200 lbs from moderate weight reduction and thats an instatn .2. also, on this car poly ended LCA's prolly werent the best choice. Ones with 2 rod ends would prolly plant u more solidly. if u loose the front sway bar ull transfer weight better to the rear tires.
If its for track use only go for 50/50 shocks out back and 90/10 shock up front and moroso trick front springs transfer weight A LOT better than stock. u could either replace the rear or chopping 1 coil off each usually does the job. If u wanna talk more IM me at rockcamaro97.

I do not agree with the go richer on the jets.... My plugs get fuel fouled from full throttle runs....
that is to much fuel... I am going to jet my carb 2 jet sizes lower to start....and see what happens...
Yes I do need that fender.... front passenger side...
non-Z-28...Sports coupe fender.
Interior looks pretty good....
And I just did a brake job this week so I can stop with out bouncing up and down...(bad rotor)
I will be doing suspenion mods....but I tring to get back to a level of performance my car had....I am about .5 off...right now...
Of course the stall 3500 will take about.25 of that....
But I no longer run my 750 vac carb on this vehicle...it is on the old vette....
I need to make this 850 DP work....

Your power >>
In a 3rd gen, based on your 1/4 trap speed I would say your power is around 300 flywheel HP on motor, probably around 250 or so at the wheels.
On gas your pushing around 400HP at the motor based on the 113MPH speed.

Well, if your carb is bogging it is a lean condition. But where? Is it in the primaries or secondaries? From the sounds of it you could go leaner on the secondaries but maybe richer on the primaries.

If this is a race only car with that kind of camshaft(Big duration and lift), Big heads on a small cubic inch engine, and a Victor Jr Intake...
My first suggestion would be bigger headers. Something like a Hooker 1-3/4" LongTube.
Second is the converter. 3500 rpm wouldn't even be optimum if this is an all out race piece. I bet if you sent the engine specs into a conerter builder like PI, Yank, or Coan, they would set you up with something in the area of a 4000-4500RPM stall.
My guess on the "Carb Bog" is that the engine is bogging from the lack of RPM. Big Cam, Big volume heads, big/high rpm intake+ little cubic inch is a perfect combination if you want to bog away from the starting line with a 2800 stall. If you go big, you go big all the way
Match the headers and a converter
Goodluck! Sounds like a fun car!

I know my trap speed is not the best...but I believe it has a alot to do with the gearing as well...
The car seems to have ungodly torque...when you drop down a gear and and the RPMS are in the 4,000-6,000 range....Jerks me harder than My LS1 SS camaro!
when the SS is on the 75 shot!
I believe the car can trap about 104-105 on the motor...with some minor adjustments....like the carb and the headers...
I have been planning on a TH350....at least a 3500 stall...
I think my engine should make about 325-335 to the wheels... after the carb is right and the large tube headers.
should be more...but I guess when you build your on motor...that experience is worth 20-25 HP with a PRO.
I wish I had let them put it together, but the experience of doing it was GREAT!
That trap speed on the GAS was 96 in the 8th mile??? Not 113.
113 mph was the LS1 SS with a 75 shot..
I can only guess the trap speed about 117-119 on the gas based on a 96mph 8th mile.

Once again... I am leaning toward a 72 front and 76 rear jetting to start with.
the bogging comes in at low rpms under part throttle....at high rpms the car runs decent with a load on it....just need the RPMS up above 3500-4000
It pushing some black smoke at idle and at speed....Fuel...not burned...
So that is why I say it is to rich....78 and 80 jets according to Holley.... I will see when I open her up.
