I just got an 84 Z-28. It has the 305 Lg4 motor. whenever i punch it from a stop it hesitates. it will lunge forward then bog down then lunge forward and so on. any suggestions for me. thanks.

 

Sounds like a possible vacuum leak, or maybe the Q-jet just wants a rebuild/readjust. Also since you just got it, put new plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fuel filter/air filter/oil and filter in it just on principle. Also check the timing.

 

Ok, I did plugs, wires, cap, roter, fuel filter, air filter, oil and filter. and the timing was good. Im guessing it is also a vacuum leak. I want to replace all the hoses since sum of them are bad. I have never adjusted a carb before. How would I go about in doing that?

Does the carb have a TPS? If so, could that be bad?

 

Yes it does. But it isn't as important on the carbed cars as it is on the FI cars. The problem is in the secondaries, and requires adjusting of the secondary air valve spring tension, choke pull-off canister, and secondary fuel metering - all of which are explained in the Tech Articles
