HELP! pulling aluminum headed engine
hey guys, i got everything undone on my motor tonight, all i gotta do is strap it down and give it a tug outta the engine bay...BUT WHAT DO I HOOK ONTO??? there is a little half *** eye on the front that it looks like you can't even get a bolt in, and there isn't anything in the back that looks remotely too something i could hook onto to pull the motor...the engine is a vette engine so it has aluminum heads, and my dad is afraid of pullin on the intake cuz that is aluminum and so is the heads, he's afraid its not strong enough..yada yada yada, i think it is becuse what else are you supposed to pull on??? i have no idea on what do use to pull this thing out, somebody help me out!!!
Re: HELP! pulling aluminum headed engine
Did you pull the accessories off the engine? If so, I may be wrong but I just use the accessory mounting holes with the bolt going in the head, and through the chain. I have used this method everytime, and have never had a problem, even w/ aluminum heads. I hope that helps.
Re: HELP! pulling aluminum headed engine
i'd use accessory holes as well. make sure that you put them on the inner most holes, otherwise your valve covers might get a little dent in them. I found that out the hard way one night when i was tired and not looking.
Re: HELP! pulling aluminum headed engine
I have used the bolts and chain method everytime I have pulled my motor. You don't need a long chain, just long enough to reach one corner of the motor to the other and have a little slack. Then out she comes.
