My 86 IROC 305 TPI will be driving fine and have all the get up and go it should have. Then all the sudden the check engine light turns on and when I hit the gas nothing will happen. Its acts like its about to run out of Gas. I thought it might be the fuel filter but why would the check engine light come on. So my next guess is the Throttle Postion Sensor or possibly the EGR valve. Im gonna get the computer read tomorrow at the local garage. Does anybody else have any ideas about what it could be?

 

If the SES light comes on then run a scan to see what comes up.

 

Short out the ALDL terminal and it should flash code 12 among others. The others will give us a clue as to what is going on.,

I know that at Checker Auto around here, they will scan your codes for free.

 

Thanks for the help everyone. I took it to the garage this morning and had them scan it. They told me to replace or clean my EGR valve and that should fix the problem. Im gonna try that and see what happens
