Help with distributer!!!!!!!

I need to know how to disconnect the distributer from the computer. Does anyone know how to do that? Its for a free mod my brother-in-law is going to do to my car.

Well there are 2 Plugs that plug into the distributor at the base of the cap. But, unplugging an electronic advance distributor sounds like a bad idea to me. Oh well, its your car.

yea, thats a badddd idea man. if you do that, go to autozone and pick up a new pre-80's hei distributor. thats what we did. it has the mechanical/vacuum advance on it, unlike the computer controlled one. i think we only paid like 70 bucks for it. but like rediroc said, it is your car.

actually if you unplug the distributer and advance the timing and then plug the distributer back in the computer will think it is still at top dead center when it is advanced and will give you more power I just need to know which plug goes to the computer so dont reply unless you tell me which plug it is.

The ECM has NO IDEA what your base timing is set at. It only knows how much MORE it's adding on top of that. You don't need to unplug anything to bump up the timing except the timing wire- a single in-line weatherpack connector poking out of the wiring harness above the heater box near the firewall (Tan wire with a black stripe). Turn off engine, unplug timing wire , set your base timing to whatever you want, shut down, plug back in, restart engine. Simple.

Please note that if you advance timing too far you will expereince detonation- but you'll never hear it. The knock sensor will pick it up and dial the timing back again before you ever hear it with your ears. Keep your timing advance above stock specs modest- 4-6 degrees above whatever your stock spec is- and expect to run premium fuel at that.
