heater core replacement
heater core replacement
ok i already posted a question about this a while back, but i got another question about it. when i looked at www.sethirdgen.org on fixing it, they didn't say anything about any extra tubing or clamps i might need. would it be a good idea to get some extra tubing and clamps or should they all be good enough to reuse, and also would i need to put the car up on jack stands to do it or is the job all under the dash, i just don't know if i need to do anything outside the firewall. any more help would be appreciated. thanks
It's all done in side the car.
I had mine done for $120 with pars included.
I all most could do it my self but I didn't know how to un do the speedo linkage and gave up and put it back together.
I was told when you get to the speeedo you give it a big tug and it pops out.
All that was needed was a heater core.

What did you buy to make it $120 to replace the heater core?
And why did you mess with the speedo?
do not do what is in the haynes or chilton manuals, unless you want to spend the entire day doing a core swap.
Access is done from under the pass side hush panel. there is one screw on the top of the heater box that is hard to get to, you might have to loosen up the bolts on the pass side dash to get some clearance so you can get a better angle at the screw.
I would reccomend replacing both heater hoses with new ones since they are only a couple of dollars each.
Heater core is about $17-23.
Took 45 minutes to replace on my Trans Am and 2 hours to do on my friends Camaro, both are 86's.
