Question Heater Core Question

Hey whats going on everyone ?
My heater core went on my camaro. ( leaked all over the passenger floor ) I heard that they are hard + expensive to replace . Is it possible to re-route the coolant so it does not come inside to car ? I know this prob mean i will have no heater.
Thanks guys
Jerry

I changed my heater core in my 91z in about 30 minutes. I got the core from Auto Zone. You dont have to take the dash off like most people say either. All you have to do is remove the bottom panel on the passenger side and look up in the dash and you will see the heater core box and stuff. Get a flashlight it helps to locate the screws you need to take off. Make sure you pull the 2 hoses off the core from inside the engine compartment. It can be done in a short amount of time. Trust me.

Id send you over to thirdgen.org for more help but most guys will tell you to remove the dash and all and its not needed I really cant tell you anymore detailed instructions either. Youll know what has to come out when you peek under the dash. just remove the panel and then take the plastic cover panel off that conceals the heater core. then you will see the core and see what has to come off to remove it. just remember to take the 2 rubber hoses off the core under the hood. DO NOT use pliers and twist then off if there hard to come off. all you will do is crush the ends of the pipes.
and yes, some screws are hrd to get too. I used a 1/4" drive rachet with a swivel and different extensions to get to the screws.

This guy gives me hope! I have to change mine also since it spewed all over my BRAND NEW carpet. I've had the core for a few months, but I keep hearing how it's tough so i've been putting it off. The core was $37 and change. My sister just paid $350 i think to have hers replaced in her 92 RS Camaro...terrible huh? I wish I would have replaced it for her myself. Thanks for the info !

The heater core just blew in my '82. I picked one up last night for $19 at Auto Zone. I'm glad to see this thread, as I've been looking for instructions on the web this morning. I don't really want to wait until Monday for my friend to put it it. Maybe I'll pull this off myself after all.
