Headers, and install

Hey guys i have a few questions about some headers and the installation process. Ok first of all for my birthday my mom said she would get me a set of headers for my car. Not the best ones but they will work for me. They are dynomax short tubes. They are goin on my 1990 Iroc-Z 5.7L auto. The car is pretty much stock except for what you see in the sig below. What kind of differences do you think i will see? My roomate says i will see a big difference from the original stock manifolds. And second, i have never installed a set of headers before being this is my first f-body. But i have worked on cars and am not completely illiterate either. Is this a real difficult job or can it be done for a first timer?

Thanks guys

Lance

Re: Headers, and install

it can be done with simple hand tools by yourself. i did it my first time with a friend over a 3 day weekend.

i think any headers made for our cars is better than the manifolds..

Re: Headers, and install

I'm not very fresh on 3rd gens at the moment, but I would have to say try and skip the shorties and go long tubes. I never got as far as headers on my '92 when I had it, but I know that shorties for my current Z would have done me about no good. I would imagine the same would be true for the 3rd gen cars as well. It'll sound better, yes, but you are still better off with long tubes. You can get long tubes for not much more than what shorties would cost you. The torque boost is worth the extra few bucks!

Re: Headers, and install

With long tubes a thirdgen will lose ALOT of ground clearance. So its a bad idea if you have to worry about bumps and bad roads. The hooker 2055's are considered to be one of the best shorie headers in production right now for a thirdgen.

Its a toss up between SLP 1 3/4" shorties, or Hooker 2055's. However, if you can find a set of SLP Tri-Y headers for a thirdgen then BUY them. They are the best shorties out there.
