headers, i hate these post too

When i did my blazer it was easy everything fit, it was smog exempt, duals straight back, and it was cheap.

I started looking for headers for the camaro and I just dont know.

I now live in an area where there is smog laws but no inspection. I three years I know I will be moving to where are inspections are done however they are currently trying to ebolish the law as the air quallity is way better than national standards now.

The fit mit is also in question I cant seem to get a straght answer form the catolauges.

Im going for a compleate exhaust upgrade, obviously none smog headers means no cats.

what about h pipes y pipes and the like?

Pointers anyone?

SLP makes some nice smog legal headers, I had a set of their non-smog legal ones on my RS and they were very easy to install and worked out real well.

from what i hear hooker makes an awesome header and y pipe combo. get rid of that cat you have with a mac off road pipe with 3 inch exhaust all the way back and you set. i dont know how it fits but when i get it all done ill clue you in plus tell you how many manifold bolts i snap

headmens & hookers make smog legal headers as well.
Got to www.Summitracing.com & find what you are looking for. if nothing else call the number they have there. They know these cars & what should fit & what shouldnt.

I just installed some SLP headers on mine.. 1 3/4th's with A.I.R

easy fit.. only thought needed was to undo the drivers side engine mount bolt and use a jack to lift that side of the engine some for the header to drop in. Then bolt her up and have some fun! Stainless Steal..

Little bit of hose fabrication on the passenger side. I used some of the supply'd hose for it.. for the drivers side ... i picked up a 90* fitting to make it look more stock.. and for the stock hose to fit to it. New check valves is probably a must.. mine just broke off with the manifold metal inside it. DOH!

I'd get the SLP ones with AIR. That way it is not too bad if you ever had to put them on for inspection. Mine are capped off.

i've got hedman 1 3/4" shorties with their y-pipe on my '87. from there back, it is 3" system custom bent using a flowmaster 3 chamber muffler and a hidden tailpipe. looks clean and sound good. the headers are 100$, i believe the y-pipe is around 80$, the 3" exhaust was 150$, and 100$ for the muffler. i bought the whole system used for 250$.

i have a few used exhaust pieces if you are interested.
hooker 1 5/8" headers (used, but in good condition) and modified stock 3" y-pipe - 80$
dynomax 1 5/8" headers (used, but only for about 20 min) - 50$

later

Pre - 95 emmissions exempt? Not in NYC, I just got her inspected last month and they checked emmissions alright. The city will only run safety inspections on vehicles older than 20 yrs, everybody else gets the safety and the sniffer.
