Header/Y-pipe/Cutout Combo?

Looking at hedman longtube headers from summit ($120)... trying to find a decent 3" y pipe (anyone know of one?), or just using the hedman Y pipe ($70)... and either the Mr. Gasket Co. 2" lever-controlled cutout for $50, or the QTEC 3" electric cutout for $180...

I was hoping to have 3" into 3"... but I guess that's not going to work. I'd like to keep this venture as dirt cheap as physically possible. Any ideas guys? I hate to put headers and everything on this, and then just reduce the damn thing to 2" anyways...

A local muffler shop will probably fabricate a custom y-pipe for like 100-125$.

Thanks man... what about the 2" cutout? Is that going to restrict it too much?

Brant- I'm planning on a 3" Hooker Catback and incorporating a Flowtech 3" Cutout into it all. I'd look into doing the same thing. Also, if you'll be using the Hedmans, I'd do their Y-pipe as well. I haven't heard much about it though.

NOTE: Summit has free shipping now!!

Summit has always had free shipping, but a flat 9$ handling charge.

thanks for the input! The tricky part is, does the flowtech 3" cutout have a lever control?

I don't want to shuck out the $180 for the QTEC, as electronic isn't necessary...but I would like to control the cutout from inside the car. If this flowtech can do that, how much does it cost? Heh, I want to be naughty on the road.

DON'T do the 2" cutout...it wont really gain you anything since it is so much smaller

the flowtech cutout has 3 bolts/wingnuts that you have to remove, then you can pull the plate off.

the Qtech is cool, but expensive.

Well the whole problem with the wingnut idea is that I HAVE to unscrew wingnuts...the glory of the 2" wusser is that I can hook it up to my currently-non-functional e-brake lever, and when I want to ditch the catback, just pull it up...

I realize the smart thing would be to get the two 3" cutouts for $55 on summit, but those are wingnuts. No one seems to be in the business of creating this wonderful pull-lever cutout.

Thanks again for the responses!
