head quostion

i just bought a brand new set of chevy double hump heads. i snagged them for 75.00 bucks at a swap meet. they came with screw in studs and guide plates. i just have to get the valves installed. i was wondering what i could do to improve them while
there at the machine shop. this car is going to see alot of strip time this year and i hope that they run better than the 305 HO heads i have on now.

I'd get the ported definatly!. Its cheap horsepower if you have the heads off. Also I don't know what compression you have but if you have stock pistons get the heads milled to up your compression, this will also help. my friend runs 10.1:1 in his 305 on premium, you should be able to do the same.

If you get them ported make sure to get them pocket ported also. Alot of people who have there heads ported just do the intake and exhaust. Because they don't know alot they don't do the pockets. if you don't ask the machine shop sometimes they don't ask. I always get a comp port and polish. Ask them if they do a 3 angle or 5 angle comp job on the heads.

Pocket porting, port matching, 3-angle valve grind, and some better springs will help out quite a bit without costing TOO much money. You might want to have them milled depending on the chamber volume.
