Having problems with 350 replacement engine/TPI

Car doesn't run right with new engine modifications. I have a 350 crate engine from GM and installed aftermarket TPI (Arizona Speed TPI system), along with a ATI Procharger. I have valve cover breathers but smell exhaust type emissions from enigine and see breather off and smoke coming from engine. Is this bad or the right thing to see? Also, hitting th gas hard produces a large amount of smoke from the tail pipes. I assume oil buringin or something. Any suggestions.
Thanks.

Re: Having problems with 350 replacement engine/TPI

Need more info abou the engine. Is the smoke white/blue/black? Did you break the engine as per instruction? Was your car orignally a 305 then swapped for a 350? If so did you upgrade the chip? As far as smoke coming out the breather, hat woould be a no. Sound like you either have a bad valve guide seal, oil passing through the piston rings.

Smoke is white. Car originally a 305 and swapped to the 350 crate engine.

I changed the computer and had new chip installed hypertech that boost the performance maybe too much to let it burn too rich

have a chip burnt not a hypertech a hypertech chip is only to help improve Stock settings, Lower the temp & stuff like that.

Either take the car to a shop & have them do the work there or call fastchip.com or someone else & have them burn a chip to the specs of the engine.

White smoke = coolant getting into your combustion chamber. You may want to take you car back to the shop that worked on your engine. Let them know what is going on since having the engine installed in your car.

thats prob. either a blown head gasket or a cracked head...possibly a cracked block but doubtful.

easy way to find which side its on is to use a spray bottle w/ water in it and spray each header tube and where it burns away the slowest is where the culprit is.if you dont have headers, just spray it on the exhaust manifold near the exhaust port on the heads.

hope this helps

Re: Having problems with 350 replacement engine/TPI

sprayed the headers with water and all evaporated evenlyit seems. Just checked coolant and can't even feel it now and the oil is also low. I would hate to have to replace headers or even the valve covers....is there any way to check a crack, leak or such without taking everything back down?

At a minimum, your heads will have to come off to check the head gasket. How did the oil look? Black/ brown/, chocolaty?

CHecked oil wasn't burnt smelling. Oil looked dark but not black but brown and maybe chocolaty like. I added oil and a lot of coolant. I did see the coolant flowing back into the radiator though if that makes a difference.

Re: Having problems with 350 replacement engine/TPI

where are you from? are u running the car when its really cold outside and its smoking from the hot exhaust+cold temp.? just askin

i like to run the car w/ the rad. cap off untill the thermostat opens (maybe even a little after) so that you make sure there no air pockets in the cooling system,b/c once they are in there they can be a major PITA to get out.

if the oil didnt look like a vanilla milkshake, thats a pretty decent sign its not a cracked block/head.
