You don't need to unlock it if you press the button inside the car. Try to open it with the key from the outside and pull up on the hatch in the process. Let us know how that works. I have studied the rear hatch motor rather extensively and I think that the latch is not fully opening and the hatch is sitting just a little bit low, triggering the motor to pull it back down.

yeah mine doesn't work either. My button does nothing at all when I press it, I have to open it from the key whole behind the plate. I checked all the wiring and everything is good and the motor gets power, I have no clue what the problem is cause the motor works when I unlock it outside. I just gave up on it and said hell with it, cause I have no clue what it could be. The hatch motors suck, they always break, the more power options you have the more things their are to break and the bigger the hassle. I think the power motors are pointless, and manual ones work great, and they don't break as easy. Same for power seats, I'm glad I don't have them.

You need a new hatch motor assembly, the 92's used a piece inside them that unlocked the hatch as the motor raised it, yours is broken and thus why it will go up, not unlatch and then come right back down.

nah... i have a 92

nothing is wrong with your motor, it's your hatch struts

when they get worn they don't have enough force to "pop" open the hatch when you hit the button. So it raises up, doesn't pop off the reversal switch, and then drops back down.

Mine has VATS with a remote that opens the trunk, so I can just hit the button and stand by the hatch... But you'll have to reach in, hit the button, and jump to the back of the car to pull it up before it gets to the top of the cycle. I've had to do it when I only had my spares. Just keep pulling up, I bet your shocks don't hold the hatch up either. If they do, I bet they only do when they get hot.

This is hella common.

Nice for trying to argue, however it happens quite often just as I said it, even if you had someone standing there waiting, you still couldnt get the hatch open cause it simply doesnt un latch.

Thanks anyway.
