Harmonic balancer.
Harmonic balancer.
I've already posted about this, but I think I have discovered that my harmonic balancer is touching up against the timing chain cover, cause and annoying ticking noise. Does this mean it needs to be replaced.
Im kinda low on cash so, would it be a bad idea to put some bearing grease on the back of the harmonic balancer to hush it till I can get some money? Im a redneck, I know, but I dont have the cash for a new one yet, so, I just want to make it be quiet.

Well, I tried to fix it by putting C clamps on it and tyring to push it forward, but it left the rubber seal behind, so now I have to buy another one.

Yeah- once they slip they're toast. You may not like the expese now, but trust me- it's doing you a favor in the long run.
A proper balancer puller and install tool (both of which you can rent) will make the job MUCH easier and less frustrating.

Funny story about that.....when I was building my 355 I was calling around to the parts stores trying to find a balancer installer to rent. 5 out of 6 of the so-called "parts professionals" told me there was no such thing....just use a big hammer. I asked each of them if they would pay me back for my brand new Fluidampr ($275 plus shipping) when I destroyed it that way. 2 laughed, 1 hung up, and the other 2 asked what a Fluidampr was. I finally found one at the 6th place I called and the guy said he had never seen anyone rent it before. Gotta loved rednecks.
