Hard to start

My 89 iroc 305 tpi takes a while to start. it just cranks and cranks and eventually after mayber 10-15 seconds finally comes to life. this is a fairly new problem since i got the car last thursday. its been happening for about 2 days. i know the alternator is going since it generally reads under 13 volts on the gauge and was wonbdering if a weak battery could cause the car to take longer to start. or what if any other reason there could be for this and possible solutions.

Re: Hard to start

first thing to do is get the alt checked, as well as the battery. any auto parts store should be able to tell you what's going on with those 2 parts.

could be a fuel problem as well.

i would get the charging stuff checked out or replaced.

then go through and do a full tune up....plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter...and see what happens.

Re: Hard to start

i just tested my battery today at work it came up bad i was wondering if the lo9w charging voltage could be caused by the bad battery and if the alt could still be good.
