Guys,I need help car wont start after cam change
Ok, i cant get my '87 ws6 formula (350 TPI) to start after switching the cam.
the new cam was installed at 0 (not 4 degrees retarded or advanced)
Compression is good
Strong spark
Plenty of fuel
tried setting the timing at tdc and only got a backfire every other time it cranked over completely. For some reason the dist. doesnt like seating all the way until you crank it over and put some pressure on the dist, then it drops right in. I did notice that for some reason when i leave the key on and swivel the rotor the fuel pump keeps priming intermittently.
Basically i am stumped and need some ideas.
thanks.

sounds to me that you are not fireing on your #1 cylinder.
first off make sure you have all your plug wires right,if that checks out pull your dizzy and spark plugs, put a socket on your fan and turn the mototr over untill the marks line up for tdc, then drop your dizzy in and check and see if the rotor is pointing at the #1 fireing position,if not pull the dizzy and rotate the rotor untill its about 1in from #1 position and drop it in it should slide in moving the rotor the 1in into position.

Re: Guys,I need help car wont start after cam change
Assuming you have the cam right you need to rotate the motor over by hand. Watch for the #1 cylinder's valves. When the mark on the harmonic balancer is at zero, what is the position of the valves? Is one up and the other down? The both have to be closed for that to be #1 TDC. That is assuming too that your balancer is not bad and the mark has moved and assuming you got the rockers set up with the correct tension.

Re: Guys,I need help car wont start after cam change
Had my friend bump it over very slowly with my finger over the #1 spark plug hole until there was compression, then turned it over by hand until the balancer lined up with the 0* timing mark. dropped in the dist. and pointed it at number one.
Had my friend crank it over while i rotated the dist slightly until it started fireing and finally started.
For some reason i had to rotate the dist. almost a 1/8 of a turn from tdc to get it started
I have another question, about what fuel pressure should i be running with the stock injectors? ( i know i should get bigger ones, but its not in the budget right now)
cam specs: .525 lift 224/232 duration 112lsa

Also, could you recomend a place that does a good job of burning chips? My car runs fine, no ses or anything, but i know getting a reprogrammed chip will give me more power, and ill need one when i switch to the hsr anyway.

That's normal. The distributor always moves a little when the gear meshes with the cam gear.
