geting rid of the computer
geting rid of the computer
im new at this bilding my own moter a 327 but the car as a computer in it and i want to get it out of the car what all do i need to get it out and what is the best stuff to get.
Re: geting rid of the computer
I'm no expert but, If passing smog is not a concern, running a carbed motor shouldn't need a computer.
The electric fan is trigered by the computer so maybe running off a thermostat and relay should work.
I'm not sure if the fuel pump needs the computer or not.
Without the computer you won't need the O2 sensor the MAF sensor.
There maybe other concerns I'm forgetting.

Re: geting rid of the computer
That will depend on what engine the car has to start with. My 87 had an LG4 (305 carb). I yanked the computer, and the entire harness that plugs into the computer. You have to make sure that you have a mechanical fuel pump (or wire your own electric pump), swap the distributor to a large-cap HEI, and several other small changes.

Re: geting rid of the computer
Hmm.
I successfully ran my CLCC quadrajet right up until the day I replaced the engine. My "Feeble305" made 308 HP at the crank, and got a best of 26 MPG on the highway when I put it behind a T56 transmission. I never got a check engine light, and once the motor went closed loop on the oxygen sensor, it ran flawlessly all day.
14.04 at 101 MPH was my best E/T. It could've done 13's with better traction. So, that said, I suggest you try to work with the electronics rather than attempt to just lobotomize your engine. It's possible.
