gears(need help)

I was wanting to change out the stock 3.23 gears in my 85 trans am and was wondering if ya'll would recomend 3.73's.

i would actually take it a step further and go with 4:10's

4.10's with TPI??? Not unless you have a 6-speed, and even then it would require a lot of consideration. The TPI's powerband drops off pretty low and 4.10's would just take you straight past it. Coupled with the monstrous torque curve of a TPI system, 4.10's would create a lot of traction problems too. So in other words....all that's gonna do is cost you tires every couple of months. Not to mention destroy any thought of fuel efficiency.

3.42's are just about ideal....you can get away with 3.73's if you don't mind traction problems when it's wet and a bit less gas mileage.

Thanks guys, but i've decided i'm going to stick with the 3.23's for now. When I do switch gears i'll prob. go with a 3.73.
