I would keep 3.42's. It would allow for 140 MPH blasts in 4th gear through the traps and crazy good gas mileage

That's just me though...

You could always do 4.10's and run slicks at the track. It would be pretty fun

Well, it depends on your motor. don't want to overgear your car if the motor doesn't rev high enough.
My brother is running 4.10's on his 96 T/A 6 speed. His rev limiter is set to 6100.
In the 1/4 mile, he is at the top of 4th gear. Car will run to 145mph at the top of 5th gear.
I'd recommend 3.73's or 4.10's.

I've got a T56 and I'm currently running my stock 3.23 rear.

As it is, 6th gear is virtually useless, unless I'm running over 80mph. At 70 I'm turning 1500rpm. It provides for awesome gas mileage on highway trips, but I generally leave it in 5th which is 2k rpm at 70mph.

Out of the hole there's no spinning unless I dump the clutch. With more gear it would accelerate faster but would also spin more.

I've got 4.10s that I may put in, but I'm looking to get a 4th Gen rear, and I may just leave 3.42s in one if I get it.

I'm still unsure what I want to do. 3.73s are tempting as well. *shrug* It all depends on what you're going to do with the car.

if you got the time/money i would put 3.73s or 4.10s in. traction problems at the strip can be solved with slicks

I put 3.70's in just because I was putting in the T56. It works great for me. I get into 6th gear about 80 MPH.

Gear ratios for T56 (1993 from an F-bod)
1st 2.97:1
2nd 2.07:1
3rd 1.43:1
4th 1.00:1
5th .80:1
6th .62:1
Reverse 3.28:1
(1994-1997 1LE equipped F-bods)

1st 2.66:1
2nd 1.78:1
3rd 1.30:1
4th 1.00:1
5th 0.74:1
6th 0.5:1
Reverse 3.28:1

700r4

1st 3.06
2nd 1.63
3rd 1.00
4th .70

T5 gear ratios
1st 2.95
2nd 1.94
3rd 1.34
4th 1.00
5th .80

Please bare in mind there may be some variance from year to year but I cannot say for sure. I think you have a pretty good setup right now as far as your ratios are concerned. I'd try to keep it the same... Perhaps some 3.73's or 4.11's depending on the t56 you have....

It all depends on the year you take the T56 from. If you choose to take it from a 93 camoro you have a choice from two different gear ratios if you choose the one with the 3.36-2.07-1.35-1.00-.84-.62 (wide ratio), than I wouldn't use a 3:73 rear but if you chose the 2.97-1.94-1.35-1.00-.84-.62 (close ratio) than I would use the 3:73 rear. But idealy you would want the 1994-present tranny with the 2.66-1.78-1.30-1.00-.74-.50 this I would also want the 3:73 rear in. The reason you would want the 94-present tranny is it has a higher torque rating of 450 ft-lbs, were as the 93 tranny with the 3.36 1st gear (wide ratio) only has a torque rating of 350 ft-lbs, and the one with the 2.97 1st gear (close ratio) has a torque rating of 400ft-lbs.

You guys are awesome. I know I have to go with the newer t-56 because I am going ot have a high output engine which will bee sprayed a wee-bit. The thing is it is never going ot be dragraced. I am never going to take it to the track. I am building a camaro road-racing/daily driver. Would I want a 3.73 or a 3.42 rear in this case?? Thats what i'm wondering about. I don't have any prior exp. in thisarea because this is my first hot-rod ! THanks for all the help guys*
