G92 vs 1LE

What all differences is the between the G92 equiped Z's and the 1LE Z's. Other then the obvious suspension, production #'s, and value, what else is there. Any real big differences in the drivetrain?

Re: G92 vs 1LE

A 1LE would include the G92 RPO automatically. To get a 1LE you had to order a G92 with AC delete. Then RPO 1LE was added.

I know that the 1LE's also got the larger front brakes with the dual cylinders. My 1989 model with the G92 package has the same rear brakes as the 1LE but with the slightly smaller front brakes.

Re: G92 vs 1LE

Yeah, my '91 has the G92 code as well, but I was reading some stuff on a 1LE that this guy was selling and the way he described his 1LE sounded no more special the my G92. From what I had read the a/c delete was an option for the 1LE's, with that it also deleted the radio and you got larger breaks, alm. drive shaft, few came with rear disks, and there were a few other things but they dont come to mind right now. But as far as the ones with a/c they sound like nothing more then a G92 with a better supension...

Re: G92 vs 1LE

AC delete was mandatory to get a 1LE as was fog lights. All 1LEs came with PBR calipers and larger disc brakes. Early 1LEs like in 87 got radio deletes but 91/92s came with radios. My vin proven 91 1LE came full load except AC, fogs and leather. My buddies 92 came full load without fogs and AC but with leather. 1LEs had heavy duty springs, different spindles and bearings, larger sway bars, oil cooler, aluminum driveshaft, aluminum PBR calipers ((2 piston in the front)) larger rotors, swinging fuel pump pick up, heard they have baffled fuel tanks too and a few other things I cant think of.

sounds right but there were no 87 1LE cars. It was R7U I think. 88 was the first year of 1LE.

Re: G92 vs 1LE

the G92 option was offered as a full "Performance Package" rather than simply a performance axle option (as prior to 1990) with G92 consisting of multiple performance upgrades and weight saving options and the manual 5-speed cars getting a revised and more aggressive camshaft that raised the 5.0 liter engines to 230hp.

Re: G92 vs 1LE

I am new here and trying to figure out how to post a question. I've been reading this forum, and 3rd gen. forum a good bit. What bothers me is everybody says get rid of your 305 (5 liter) and replace it with a 350. I was watching PowerNation Engine Power the other day, they had a new Mustang GT 5 liter making 425hp bone stock. After adding turbo chargers the same car made 818 hp. Does Ford make a better motor than Chevy or what is the deal?

Re: G92 vs 1LE

Are you comparing the "new" generation of Ford 5.0L engines to the Gen 1 SBC 305? Apples and oranges..... or maybe more correctly apples to aardvarks.

The SBC 305 is a direct descendant of a 60 year old engine design. It was actually designed as the "economy" engine for general use across GM lines in the mid 1980's. The current Ford 5.0L is a dual overhead camshaft, 32-valve engine designed in this decade. Yes, the current Ford GT 5.0L is superior to the ancient SBC 305. The only thing the current Ford 5.0 has in common with the older Ford 5.0 (for a year comparable to the SBC 305 useage) is the displacement.

For a fair comparison, put the new generation Ford GT 5.0L up against GM's 5th Gen SBC, the LT1 (6.2L) used in the 2014 Corvette..... Admittedly, GM has chosen to stick with larger displacement (6.2L LT1, 7.0L LS7) to make HP and torque, Ford has chosen to go high-tech with the exotic DOHC 4-valve per cylinder design.

Re: G92 vs 1LE

Never thought of it that way. Maybe Chevy should put DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder in their 6.2 and 7.0

Re: G92 vs 1LE

They don't need to. In stock form they put out more power than the Ford in stock form.
