A G92?

Ok I have been searching all over. Is my car a G92? I found bits and pieces of info and I think this is the best so far, please tell me if its true.

1990-1992 Yellow/Red
305 5spd / 305 AT 4500 5000 10088155* .350 .384 179 194 109.0
305 G92 5spd / 350 AT 5000 5500 10111773* .413 .428 202 207 114.5 (116/-116)

My car is a 1991 Z28 Camaro 305TPI with a 5-speed. The tach does go yellow at 5k and red at 5500. So does that mean its definately a G92? Also I understand the G92 came with the bigger cam. Anything else? What rear end, its drum in the rear if that makes a difference.

Edit: Here's a link to the site http://www.f-body.org/tech/tech.htm#cam3rd

Re: A G92?

Yea I guess i'll have to try and find the RPO code. Its just driving me nuts and the car is outside right now. I'm in PJ's and its midnight I dont want to wake up the neighbors moving the car. Like I said its driving me nuts and I thought maybe someone would know and re-enforce my theory that I read. Thanks.

Re: A G92?

RPO code G92 was a EXTRA cost option for 90/92 Z28 for $466. Unless it was special ordered it was not Standard on the Z28. Equipment for this option varied also depending on model year. No code means you do not have this option.

Re: A G92?

(305 5 speed)g92 came with pbr rear disk, engine oil cooler, lower geared posi 3.42 10 bolt 3.45 9 bolt, tach redlined at 5500, l98 cam, dual cats. I think thats it off the top of my head, but there would be a g92 rpo code.

Re: A G92?

Not dual cats. One thing to easily spot is G92 will have rear disc brakes. It was a mandatory option on 350's. Mine has rear disc, oil cooler, posi 3.27., Borg Warner 9 bolt. In 87 this was called the G80, not G92.

I have everything you described except the rear disk...hmm I looked all over for an RPO code and couldn't find it. Not even on the rear axle.

Edit: I dont know what the rearend is. Sorry I know its posi but dont know what gears.

Just to clear everything up.

G80 means you have a posi (nothing else), it does not mean anything towards gears or the fact that it is a 10 or 9 bolt axle. G92 is the optioned gear ratio (goes for 10 and 9 bolt axles). It is a numerically higher gear than the stock "non-performance" gear.

G80 = Posi
G92 = Performance option

An example of a G92 car would be a car that normally comes with 2.73 or 3.23, but instead had the G92 option added which meant the factory installed 3.42, or 3.73, or whatever the optioned gear ratio would be. G80 means the axle has a posi.

Re: A G92?

My 88 had some funny options on it.
305 TPI Auto, 3.23 posi rear, drum rear brakes, Aluminum Driveshaft, Aluminum Spare, WOT upshift to 4th gear, 6K tach with 5K Redline, WS6 sway bars, power everything but mirrors.

That's something B4C cars had. It's for those 150+ speeds

Re: A G92?

RPO codes are on the bottom of console lid or on the compartment door in the rear. Unless someone removed them its only a 3"x 6'' sticker.

Re: A G92?

I looked all over and nothing. I'll take another look. Does anyone have a picture of an RPO code for the compartment door in the rear? Are you guys talking about that little storage area with a key? Just a plastic door.

Should be in the center console glove compartment. It will have a bunch of 3 digit number/letters on it.

Re: A G92?

G92 doesnt apply to the 1987 350's. 87 is the only year 3.27 was standard. It was the G92 in 88 and up.
