Found a hood.... rare?
I found a 1983 Z28 hood (I think) in a wrecking yard, it's fiberglass! Are they rare? Cuz it's in good shape and my 86 Z28 being a Canadian car is starting to need a hood badly!

Yep, all 82s and 83s had those fiberglass hoods. Hell, 83 cross-fire cars are almost rare themselve but ain't worth sh*t. There is a recall out there for those hoods also. I don't know how serious it was but what would happen is that the 2 sheets would separte during vehicle operation

All 82 & 83 Z28's got the fiberglass hood. Only the CFI cars got the functional ones. the hoods are rare and desireable. They go for a good amount of money. But I bet that junkyard won't let it go cheap.

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT
1983Z28
Superramed roller 406 10.5 compression, AFR 195's and custom cam.
future mods:
N20 waiting to be installed
Wifes new car:
1995 Z28
AT, leather, T-tops bone stock for now. 250 RWHP 300 RWT 14.0 @ 99 MPH on a 2.2 60'
future mods:
header to tailpipe replacement and a cold air intake. Then I am just going to leave it alone (maybe)

As said above, they are rare and desirable, but the bad part is that they weigh almost the same as a metal hood. If you can get it for under $100 i'd jump on it. BTW- Isn't $100 USD like $350 CAN?
Well, I haven't bought it yet, but the wrecker wants $100.00 CDN for it!
I'll have to look into that recall, maybe they would change the hood, or just epoxy the pieces so they won't separate.
Thanks all!

I found one in the junkyard and it only cost me $20. I had to reinforce the braces along the sides with new fiberglass matting. After that I cut the hole in it and mounted a scoop. I also had to fill the indents on the hood that were in front of the scoop.
Not as light as a good aftermarket one but a lot cheaper. It's been the only fiberglass hood I've seen in the junkyards.
