I got the flowmaster 80 series on my IROC, and ugh, I can't stand it. Between 1500-2000 rpms it sounds like a golfball bouncing around in the muffler. Outside of that range it does sound pretty good. It's quite tough to keep the car out of those rpms though.

I'm ditching it for a Hooker Aerochamber muffler soon. I'd go with a Hooker if I were you.

I guess it's a question of what's most important to you. Being LOUD, or getting best gas flow. For me, I wanted the lowest restriction and also to be able to talk to my passenger. The Magnaflow delivers that. If I wanted to set off car alarms and rattle the fillings out of my teeth and **** off my neighbors and attract Cops, I'd have gottan a Flow 80. I guess it's a matter of where your head is at. Both are way better than a stock muffler in terms of flow.

well at least I'm not the only one that doesn't like the 80 series

I got it when the car was stock and its stayed on through many changes, I used to like how it sounded but now its just getting old
My 350 has stock heads/cam w/ shorty headers, gutted cat and 80 series..... it sounds good to most people but its just not loud enough for me

thats why I'm planning on going w/ hooker supercomp long tubes, true dual 3", into dynomax turbos..... that should make it sound a little better don't you think

Yes I have the 80 series direct F-Body replacement.

It is just as loud as any other Flowmaster the website does it no justice.

And they aren't as tinny as people say they are either, they just don't have 60 miles of fiberglass to burn out.

Speaking of fibre glass, the one and only dynomax super turbo system I had worked ok, and I stress ok, not great, for about a year. Then it started sounding like it belonged on some hillbilly pickup roving the back hills in Deliverance. As I recall the pipe that went over the axle had a nasty crimp in it, too. I would shy away from the mufflers that use the fibre glass as a sound absorber. Just doesn't seem to last too long.

Cool. That fiberglass stuff doesn't sound too good from some of these posts I've gotten.

The only F-Body crossflow muffler that has no restriction is the SLP dual drivers side out system.

The flow difference between the rest is not noticable and is most likely within 1HP of each other.

Look inside even a Magnaflow, I did and decided against it in 30 seconds. Right inside the inlet is a diverter plate that blocks half of the left outlet and sends unmuffled exhaust out the right side. Thats almost as bad as a Borla.

Like I said I have had them all go with what sound you like because there is no real power difference. Just remember all packed mufflers will get louder and louder and then burn out.

How much is that SLP exhaust system? And do they have an exhaust option like Flowmaster with one that's loud at all times and the other at wot?

But if it is too big, would you lose scavenging? I know you do if the headers are too big but not sure about a too large exhaust.

I have a american thunder cat back on my GTA, and I don't care much for it. It sounds awesome on the outside, but it is just as loud on the inside. It will drive you nuts at 60-70 on the highway, especially since my stereo is locked

yeah, even with the stock cats........ i dont know if that stock exhaust with a flowmaster muffler can be that loud, maybe tho.

to hear my exhaust
click here then go to "video" then click on the two "revs" files. they are .WAV files. sound quality is only good around idle. i have headers, no cat, all three inch, and a flowmaster 40 series race muffler. i think its pretty loud at all RPM ranges; however it is dead silent inside when cruising at 70 mph (2650 RPMS, 3.73s). i have a buddy with a 71 elky built 350 headers dual 3" xpipe and dual 40 series flows with turndowns and its almost silent while cruising (he cruises at a higher RPM, no OD).

so i dont know how you guys are complaining about interior noise while cruising??? especially dudes with just cat-backs.
please comment...
