Flowmaster exhaust/ interior sound and performance?
Alright, I want to put the Flowmaster exhaust system on my RS, but I don't want too much interior sound. The Flowmaster 80 series muffler seems to be what most people are putting on their cars. On http://www.rpmoutlet.com/flow7.htm they show two exhaust systems: the "Force II," which is loud only with wot, and the "American Thunder," which is loud even when sitting still. I guess what I'm trying to say is is there less hp output from a lower series muffler? And if output is the same for the two Flowmaster exhaust systems.

I have the Force 2 and when it was only that and a cat, had an OK sound. The interior noise was a little mroe than stock, but not much. Under WOT you could tell it was there, but it didnt sound too mean. The cam had a lot to do with that though.
I bought a flowmaster system. I had tried to order an american thunder system, but they sent me a force 2 muffler. Anyhow, its on a 350 with heads, cam, intake, headers , etc. It is noticeable at idle, but not loud at all. Under hard throttle, it has a pretty healty note. On the freeway, there is some resonance, but not objectionable.
That's good. I want the performance gain, I just want to be able to talk to whoever's in the car w/ out having to raise my voice or get a 800 watt amp and two 15's just to hear some CD's. But the performance output should be about the same right?

Single 3" is more than sufficent, Anything bigger and your just losing power.
I have had a Flowmaster on three different 3rd gens a 1990 350 TPI, 1991 TBI and a 1990 305 TPI they are loud but not to loud.

I heard the 80 series Flows were pretty damn loud at all throttle settings, from idle to WOT. I hear stories of the things setting off car alarms in parking garages and of a real loud interior resonance on the freeway. If LOUD at all times is what you want, then the Flow 80 sounds like your ticket.
And that is why I specifically did NOT go with a Flowmaster. My Magnaflow is mild mannered at idle and low power operation, and is nice on the freeway, no interior resonance. It's loud as hell at WOT where it should be. The lifetime warranty is nice as well.
On Magnaflow's equivalent to the Flow 80, only the exhaust gas coming out the driver's side tailpipe actually goes all the way through the muffler. On the passenger side tailpipe, the exhaust gas just comes straight back out the muffler, kinda like a cutout. The note from the 2 pipes sounds totally different.
It's also nice to be able to be quiet when you see a COP car. No need to attract their attention.

Yeah, see that's part of the reason why I was asking as well. I've got four tickets (3 in the truck, 1 in the Camaro). I don't want the cops to waiting on me cause they heard my car 5 miles away while going 30 miles an hour.

im in a similiar boat.. i dunno if i wanna get the 40 series or 80 series.. 80 series is quieter but sounds nicer, while 40 series is just loud.. i want deep, loud, throaty exhaust..
i've hear flow master before, but i dont know what i was hearing. i got the above conclusion from here
and what the hellll does WOT mean? sorry im a noob
