Flipping The Air Box Lid...More Sound From Engine...10 More HP???

A friend of mine told me that if you flip the lid on your air box you could get better sound from your engine, as well as a lil bit more horse power?? Is this true...and is it ok for the engine to run like that since the lid being flipped over does not completely seal the throttle body...? I have an 88 Camaro 305 TBI

im not sure if you can hurt anything if dirt gets into the TB, i mean they make air filters for a reason so you probably dont want to just skip the air filter. im no expert though

That's an old trick. But its quite dependant on the lid design. On my car I notice no difference, same with my TBI S10. On a buddies 83 Cutlass it did make the usual LOUD intake resonance noise. But be warned, this reduces HP levels by a good bit. The lid still seals to the air filter so filtering is not an issue.
