Thumbs down Failed inspection: Smoke coming out after being online for lone time!!! NJ

Hey people whats going on?

I just put in a borla exhaust in my 92 z28. The one with the adjustable plates. Very sweet looking. I have the full coverage plate on the car since I had to go get the car inspected. Could this have caused the smoking? Since only one pipe was spitting the air out of the muffler.

Anyways after being online for over an hour with the car on when they put my car on the dyno a small amount of smoke started coming out of my pipes the more they acceralted the more came out. So I failed for smoking.

The car has a new exahust and the stock 2 cats.

What could be causing this smoke? I called up my mechanic and he said to put a can of smoke-out to get rid of the smoking and to change the oil. And he also said its probably something wrong with the engien...rings valves etc. Car has 89,000 miles...350

Is this the best advise? Or should I just take it to pep boys for them to check it out?

Don't know what to do...i want to fix the car if soemthing is wrong rather then just hide the problem....

The exhaust isnt what is smoking, its the engine. There is no oil used in exhausts for it to smoke. The exhaust simply directs the engines wastes to the rear of the car. Maybe change mechanics if the first thing he says is to put in a can of stop smoke, and/or tells you its your rings. It could be worn valve seals, which is FAIRLY inexpensive to fix. Get a good mechanic to do a compression test. Should be able to tell what is going on.

Cool

Lars thanks for the advise.

I am going to have to go look for another mechanic.

A compression test sounds like a good plan.
