excessive vibration@60-65 mph?
excessive vibration@60-65 mph?
I have been trying to track down the front vibration my car has when the speeds approach 60-65 mph. I am pretty sure I have some worn out front suspension parts, but would like to get some ideas of what I need to replace.
First I know the tires are not out of balance, because initially I thought that was the problem. I had them balanced 3 times already which didn't stop the vibration.
Next I decided to jack it up and start just elemenating things I think that could be the cause. I replace the lower ball joints this past weekend, because there was a noticeable play in the moving of the wheel when I move the wheel up and down, and front to back. Changing the lower ball joint helped some, but I still have that vibration, just not quite as bad before changing the ball joints.
I am thinking of just replacing all the front bushings as well as the stabilizer links. I did notice while having the car jacked up that the rubber around the ends of the stabilizer links were practivally worn out, or more like GONE.
Anyways, if anyone has any ideas or had a similar problem, I am open for suggestions.
Also, could worn shocks cause the vibration?
Thanks

How old are your tires???? I had a tire that threw a belt and you could not tell by looking at it......After a lenghty road trip of speeds upwards of 80ish, I then saw the BIG welp on the tire. Yes it would shimmy at above 60...also would pull to the side of the bad tire.

I was thinking about the driveshaft as well. The tires are only a couple months old., although that does mean they are not bad. I am going to put the rear tires on front and then put back on the factory wheels and tires to see if I can just eleminate some probably causes.
This car has been great and not many parts have been changed since I first bought it new back in 1986. In fact only the oil, plugs and wires have needed to b changed on regular basis, until now.
I changed my EGR valve and solenoid last weekend because of the engine light kept coming on, but that didn't seem to solve the problem.
Its getting frustrating and expensive trying to change parts to fix problems, only to have the problem to remain-lol.
Oh well, looks like I will be under the hood agin this weekend.
