You have crossed wires in those circuits somewhere. when you fixed the hatch you brought it problem back. The cranking and hatch should be on two differant circuits. Look to the fuse pannel or under the dash for a crossed or touching wires. Or someone did a poor spliceing (hack) job on the wire harness. Look for a schematic for your car and try and trace each system.

The Hatch Release (HR) uses the purple starter solenoid wire as a path to ground when the gear is in park so that it doesn't release when in gear.

Check for 12volts at the gear selector yellow wire with the key off, if it's hot you've wired the new relay incorrectly.

This is how I wired a fan relay to power the starter solenoid. I have a diagram, but no way to attach it. If anyone wants it I can email it.
Added wire is the same gauge as the ignition switch purple wire. I solder all wiring and crimp connectors before crimping.
  1. Removed purple wire from starter S-terminal.
  2. Solder spliced a purple wire to the purple wire I removed from the S-terminal in step 1 and connected it to the relay's "D" terminals (coil positive.)
  3. Connected another purple wire from the relay's "A" terminal (normally open contact) back to the starter S-terminal.
  4. Connected a red wire from the relay's "E" terminal (common contact) to an inline 20amp fuse.
  5. Connected the inline fuse with a red wire to the starter B-terminal; this connects the starter solenoid to the battery postive through the relay instead of through the ignition switch.
  6. Connected the relay's "F" terminal to ground (coil negative.)
Now the ignition switch will energize the relay coil instead of the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid will be pulled in by the relay.
