Engine Shuts Off

Hey guys. First, i want to introduce myself cause i just bought a 5.7 '87 IROC and its my first F-body so I'm new to alot of this. I bought the car with 45k on it so I expect to not have much problems with it, but in the last two mornings i've already encountered something that hopefully some of you can help me with. Early in the morning on my way to work I start the car, let it warm up a bit, and then as I drive down the block it shuts off. I start it back up and it immediatley shuts off again. It's not until the third try that it starts back up and runs fine for the rest of the day. This has already happened twice. Both times about 2 miles into my morning drive to work. Any suggestions?

By the way, I haven't had time to do a whole tune-up on yet. I'll get on it tomorrow.

Did this car sit a long time with the previous owner? I would start off by replacing the fuel filter. Also the fuel injectors could be a little clogged. I'd start with that.

Yeah the car did sit out for a few months. I was thinking the same thing but its odd that it happens only in the early morning. I drive it to work and have it sit out in the parking lot for 8 hours and when i drive it back home its fine.

Re: Engine Shuts Off

Well sorry to bring this thread back but I still need help. I changed the fuel filter, spark plugs/wires, distributor cap/rotor, o2 sensor, PCV, and cleaned out the IAC. Unfortunatley it still happens, and it may have got worse. This morning on my way to work AGAIN, it turned off on its own in the middle of the road. The only thing different was that this time it died on me about 5 times instead of the usual 1 time in the morning. Of the 5 times 2 times i could start right back up but the other times took a couple minutes of me cranking it until it finally started up.

Another thing i noticed throughout the week was that my instrument lights dont light up, this includes the SES light. So if the ECM is shooting out codes, i cant tell. Even when i hook up a paper clip to the ALDL, it wont flash.

Also, the warning buzzer/chime (the tone you hear when you stick the keys in the ignition) works only sometimes. The times it does work, it stays on even after i start the car and drive it. Probably about 2 min of it going off.

I dont know if these three issues are related but i think it might be if it is an electrical issue. I would appreciate it if someone could help me on any of these. The car shutting off issue is most important.
