dying camaro

yesterday afternoon just as im going home from work sitting at the red light my car dies i start the car back up and go about getting home but the car hesitates realy badly smoke and oil poring out of the tail pipe i eventualy get home idelling on the highway in the sholder the gas gage is saying almost emptie i started this adveture with a half tank so i dont know what the heck is going on!! the camaro has 250 thousand milles on it. its 1988
any help is appeciated thx

I hate to state the obvious but it's sound like the engine died. But to be sure, trouble shoot this like you would any problem. Start by checking the plugs, and maybe do a compression check. Pull the vac. lines and make sure none of them have any oil in them, that sort of thing.

well yesterday a master mecanic came over and looked at every thing replaced some sensors and now it runs but he's telling me the cat back is cloged to the max so im going to get it cut out cuzz i cant aford to get a new one any time soon i just hope i dont get pulled over for it, its a 10,000 doller fine for not having that stupid thing but my question is now how mutch louder will the car be?

I think you mean th catalytic converter, not the cat back. Cat back would include the muffler and any pipes after the catalytic converter. Removing that would make the car really loud. The cat itself can be removed with little extra noise but you have to replace it with a pipe or another cat.
