Post the dreaded thud from the rear suspension

i dont remember which it is..the shocks or struts that make the noise when they go but how big of a job is it to do yourself...i just spent 2900 dollars on my car in the past 2 months so i'm really lookin to do the job myself if possible..any comments or suggestions would be appreciated

When is the problem occuring? If your getting a thump upon acceleration. I'd check the tranny mount first. Very common on these cars.

i mainly get the thud when going over a bump or up the curb on my driveway, so that would lead me to believe it isn't the trans mounts

Did u change the lower controls and panhard rod? If so you could have preloaded them when you put them in. This can cause a clunking noise. Another thing it could be is if you chunked a curb or were in a wreck it could have bent some of your suspention. I would look under the car and check things out before u start spending your cash.

How about checking for a loose rear shock, thats what it sounds like from you description. Also the Tranny Mount is another one to look at while you are under the car.

I had the same problem. Going up driveways or on hard accelleration, drove me nuts. Replaced all the rr bushings. Still did it. Someone told me to replace the trans mount and torque arm bushing, and the clunk disappeared!

For some reason, it sound like it's coming from the back of the car. Try it before you throw away a lot of time and cash. Good luck.

since it's not a big deal it is probally just easier to change it instead of looking at it. I think they are like 7 bucks and it only requires taking out like 5 bolts. But if you're looking at it, It should look dryrotted and probally be mismatched from the top and bottom part. Like I said probally easier to change it.
