Does This Sound Like Valve Seals ?????
I have a 1988 Iroc with a 305 tpi 5 speed. Car has 85000 original miles. When I start it from cold like overnight it does not smoke at all. When the car is shut off and started 5 minutes to 1 hour it does not smoke. If the car sits say 2 to 4 hours it smokes blue smoke on startup. The car is not using much oil and gets frequent changes. Motor has never been apart. Does this sound like valve seals to you? Would a additive or heavier oil reduce the huge puff. I just find it kinda embarasing. Thank you

Sounds like it. If it is the seals, there's is only one fix, replace them.
When I did seals on my IROC I bought the umbrella type seals. They were around 20 bucks for all of them. I used the compressed air trick and changed them all in around 3-4 hours.

Thanks for the imfo. I guess I will change them out in the fall when I am done driving it for the season. I guess I should not complain its 23 years old I really beat on it when it was fairly new......
