Question Does anyone know about the Secondary Air Injection bypass valve??

I have a 92, 305 TBI. I bought the car from a wholesaler, and it does not have what I believe is the secondary Air Injection bypass valve. I could be wrong, but I beleive that this may also be called the air diverter valve. I called a couple of dealerhsips, and got conflicting answers as to whether or not running the car without this would hurt the motor.
This car is strictly a cruiser, and will never see a race, dyno or burnout. Is this a mandatory part,as it seems to run find without it.
Thanks

And it will continue to run fine without it. Won't hurt the motor. At least it hasn't hurt mine and I haven't had one on for years. In fact, I don't even own the parts anymore.

AllI have left is a few tubes going to nothing, and 2 pig tail connections going ot nothing. Is there anything I can do to clean that up, or should I just leave those there, even though the part is no longer there.

Now I am a little confused. I believe my smog pump is still in tact. I'm new to this engine, so I don't really know how this whole system functions. Is the smog pump atached to the secondary air bypass(diverter valve)? Therefore, since the air bypass system is not there, is the smog pump and system now useless?
Any education is helpful. I should have specified I am new to this engine.

on third gens, the smog pump(AIR pump), sucks air from the atmosphere through a filter in the pump, it is then plumbed to the diverter valves(2 valves in 1 assm.)which are electrically actuated by the ECM, in response to engine temp and RPM, I belive when cold , air is sent to the catalytic convertor, and when hot, it is sent to the exhaust manifolds(may be other way) in an effort to increase cat efficency(sp?) and decrease emmisions(mainly HC)
